I qualified as a yoga teacher (200 hrs standard RYS)
at the Sivananda Yoga & Vedanta Dhanwantari Centre
in Kerala in 2007 and teach two weekly drop-in classes
at Revitalise - Wednesday evenings, 8pm till 9.15pm
(beginners) and Friday mornings, 9.30am to 10.45am (beginners
to intermediate).
Classes follow the fundamentals of Sivananda Yoga beginning
with five or ten minutes of relaxation (savasana) and
pranayama (breathing exercises), followed by a series
of Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskara) to warm up, then
a sequence of forward, backwards, lateral and balancing
postures – all to relaxing music. Classes
finish with ten to fifteen minutes of Savasana to fully
rest and refresh mind, body and soul.
I aim to make yoga accessible to all, regardless of
age, ability or experience. The classes are small (maximum
eight), and I welcome all! Students report feeling
deep relaxation, flexibility, positivity and wellness,
gaining awareness of the breath through the conscious
holding of, then releasing of tension in the body, and
re-balancing the chakras.
